Can you think of Indian sportswear being westernized keeping the Indian spirit in mind? That’s what Anamika Khanna’s SS16 collection in association with luxury lifestyle décor brand, SPACES Home & Beyond at the Amazon India Fashion Week had in store for us.

There were free flowing garments with shoes & sporty caps and gears aligned… The white & black flowy trendy lines with almost all the patterns twisted & re-made using sporty touches added here & there. The stripes & minutest details kept in mind were used in the form of kurtas, silhouettes & drapes with bindis on forehead.

The glitter & sequins on white kurtas with white sneakers made another sporty argument which went well designed and blended well in the look with button down crisp transparent shirts and parallels (mustards, navies, whites) in khadi.

There was the freedom of sports and expressions made with metallic greys, blues, whites and with international & modern feel keeping the Indian tradition intact by using sarees in an innovative way and pairing them with sporty blouses being cozy, comfy & easy going.

The collection progressed from black and white to print, to an Indigo Dyeing process with clamp & shibori, finally ending in some burst of colour and patchwork. There were elements of chikankari & also metallic details. The bandhgala or the crisp whites gave elegance and light, texture, definition, impact and definitely a free spirited sporty bite out of the closet.  The RTW ensemble rules were broken to create lines and free expressions with embroideries & embellishments being internationally but Indian hearts at bay kissing the playful feminine beauty within.

Every girl deserves to be loved, pampered & has the right to be a free woman of substance endorsing culture, religion, tradition, respect, values & modernity in every aesthetical way. I think the collection was young & chic giving us a sporty take on Indian wear.
